Council of Nicaea Canons

Canon 1: On the Lapsed

Those Christians who lapsed during the time of the Decian Persecution should be allowed back into the Church upon rebaptism.

 

Canon 2: On Palestine Metropolitan

Metropolitan bishopric of Palestine should be moved to Jerusalem from Caesarea and Jerusalem’s power is equal to the bishop of Rome.

 

Canon 3: On Metropolitan Bishops

Metropolitan Bishops shall have power over local Bishops to establish doctrine and policy for the Church to promote order and unity in the Church, and the Metropolitan bishops of Rome and Jerusalem will be the primary Metropolitan bishops to mediate disagreements and to lead bishops in questions of doctrine and policy, being the final say, if needed.

 

Canon 4: On Women

It is decided that women have no place nor authority to be in the clergy and shall not be ordained.

 

Canon 5: On Councils

There will not be future ecumenical councils to make decisions for the church, as Canon 3 has given Metropolitan bishops authority over doctrine.

 

Canon 6: On Easter

The celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection shall occur on the Sunday after the 14th day after the first new moon after the Spring Equinox.
