The Montanists are calling and I must go

The main leaders of Montansim were Montanus, Maximilla, Quintilla, and Priscilla. The Montanists believed in continuing revelations from the Holy Spirit. They differentiated from the porto-orthodox in that they were accepting of women holding roles in the church and receiving new prophesies. Their belief in ongoing prophecy goes against the beliefs of the proto-orthodox who received their knowledge from the apostles and the written scriptures. In other news, the Gospel of Mary could be seen as an anti proto-orthodox text because it gives Mary a prominent role in the ministry of Jesus as well as allows Mary to receive and teach prophecy. Peter stands for porto-orthodox beliefs and responds negatively to Mary’s deep understanding and knowledge of Jesus’ teachings.
