Bound to Happen One of These Days

Let’s start with the organ again.unnamed The colors from the stained glass windows on the right are definitely reflecting more strongly on the pipes. The reds and yellows are picked up by the silver pipes and stand in opposition to the white from the opposite side. The shadows the ‘gesture’ to the organist are sharper and more distinct on the right side, as is to be expected. I definitely didn’t notice that on my first day in here though. Rather than the lightest part of the wood surrounding the organ being the peak directly above the organ, it is brightest just slightly to the left of center. The shadows from the wood that encases the pipes are much larger and darker on the right side of the organ.

I took note of the lack of light on the floor when I entered the chapel. In the 5 minutes I’ve been here, that has already changed. The floor by the prayer chapel (a smaller room in the rear of the Chapel) is now decorated in a rather, lively, festive fashion. The appearance of such vibrant colors in such a reverent, calm space is reminiscent of the hymns unnamed 3that sing of celebrating and ‘dancing’ for the Lord. Specifically, ‘City of God’ is now in my mind.
‘Let us build the city of God, may our tears be turned into dancing. For the Lord, our LIGHT and our love, has turned the night into day.’
Colors from the edges of the stained glass windows are much less jumbled today. Their reflections seem intentional and part of the design of the chapel as a whole. Today, I feel myself most drawn to the colors in the farthest forward window. The vibrancy of the reds and oranges is much more intriguing than the calming blues/teals I preferred last week. Granted, a lot has improved in my life in the past week so I can’t say that I’m surprised. unnamed (1)
I’m hung up on that song… On the idea of colors in a chapel being jubilant. Having a chapel feel like a joyous gathering place rather than a place of somber prayer. And I think I prefer this new realization to where I was before. To quote my old pastor, ‘we must move from the world of Good Friday to the world of Easter Sunday.’ And maybe this week, I have.
(#sorrynotsorry that this got so spiritual.)
