Colors

imageThe chapel feels darker as a whole today. The windows on the right, which have consistently had light streaming through them are much more dim than usual. Odd since it is so bright outside. The left windows are not bright enough to even cast their colors distinctly on the stone underneath them. imageOnly the windows with very light blue in their border seem to reflect down onto the stone. The light from the right windows is casting very distinct colors on the stone below it. The front has mainly ambers and orange hues. The next has a mix of blue and reds. The next has more of an aqua/teal feeling. The UR window (feat Boatwright tower) is where the colors start to blend more rather than being distinct. There are greens, blues, and ambers all coming together in a strange and disorienting jumble. The Arts window (feat comedy and tragedy masks) has much more no color light reflecting down from it. The colors imageare indistinguishable and muddy. The sciences window (feat an atom and a caduceus) has calming teals, blues, and purples. The small ‘Our Father’ window has a corner of light blue and red. The front section of pews on the right is also picked up by the colors from the surrounds of the windows. Purples and reds are reflected down on the pews and would light anyone standing in them (a phenomenon I have noticed in here during Mass). They also cast a few streaks of rainbow light at various places along the pews.
Things have brightened up imagein the last five minutes. Perhaps there was a cloud that has moved. The right side windows seem as bright as they were in previous weeks. The difference is readily apparent when comparing the value of color (just finished that reading) on the left wall compared to the right. I’m noticing that the color from the borders of the windows does not just reflect down but also to the side, as the windows are set back a few inches in the wall. Perhaps I have never noticed this before because, due to where I sit, I can only see it on the back two windows. The back window is also casting colors on the floor, turning from red to purple to Amber. I hate to say it but I think the sciences window is my favorite.
