Attempting To See Not Just Watch

The shadow cast by the left tree has very sharp edges. Reminds me of a sharply focused tree gobo. The shadows of the trunk of the tree and of its branches are particularly sharp and there are large, hard-edged pools of lit grass in the half of the shadow closer to the tree. In some of these pools, the visibility, enabled by the sun streaking through the tree’s branches, is so great that I can see stray blades of grass within each pool sticking out much further over the more evenly cut grass.

The tree to the right is lit from its right and from above. The sunlight is reaching the vast majority of the bristles on the top of the tree, which I find peculiar because the sun is currently situated lower in the sky. Despite the sun’s angle, it still manages to light the majority of the tree’s right side and it’s top while also cutting through the branches and hitting just a few bristles on the left side of the tree. This high sidelight is giving the tree really great form, really visually pleasing depth, shadows, and highlights whereas the left tree is mostly in shade is not as visually interesting.

The wind is blowing. The gentle breeze makes the thinner branches and the bristles connected to them sway ever so slightly. I am looking at the tree on the left. When this gentle swaying motion happens the few bristles that are getting direct sunlight glisten, they shimmer, as if they were made of metal or sequin-material. It gives off a similar sensation to that of sunlight reflecting off a mirror, giving off that almost blinding white light.

I feel happy and just a little bit sleepy, probably because I am situated in a shadowed area looking at a brightly lit area. But overall I feel pretty happy and ready to take on whatever the rest of my day has to offer.
