On page 176, Morrison notes that \u201cneither Stamp Paid nor Baby Suggs could make her put her crawling-already? girl down\u201d which confirms that the \u201cblood-soaked child\u201d is Beloved (178). This statement suggests that Sethe thinks that death is a better option for her child than life as a slave. Although Paul D cannot comprehend Sethe\u2019s decision, Sethe finds that she was successful as she kept her children away from Sweet Home. Finally, Paul D asserts that he finds what Sethe did \u201cwas wrong\u201d (194). Moreover, Paul D proposes that there could have been some other way from protecting her children because Sethe has \u201ctwo feet\u2026not four\u201d (194). Paul D\u2019s statement suggests that he finds Sethe\u2019s behavior to be animalistic. In this moment, the love between Sethe and Paul D dies. Paul D\u2019s classification of Sethe\u2019s behavior as animalistic parallels that of a slave owner.
