{"id":1134,"date":"2017-11-01T20:00:33","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T20:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/?p=1134"},"modified":"2017-11-01T20:00:33","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T20:00:33","slug":"st-josephs-villa-week-of-october-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/2017\/11\/01\/st-josephs-villa-week-of-october-23\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Joseph&#8217;s Villa Week of October 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I seem to say in every blog post, this week was a huge improvement on the last few.\u00a0 I&#8217;m learning that the relationships the students have with us is much more important than the relationship the students have with the material.\u00a0 At first, I wondered if the students&#8217; apprehension was fueled by disinterest in Macbeth, but have grown to realize that the apprehension is simply a product of not being comfortable around us.\u00a0 Now that we&#8217;ve begun to forge somewhat personal relationships with these students, they seem considerably more interested.\u00a0 I try to make a comment about something personal to each student throughout our sessions, and I think them knowing that I have individual interest in each one of them is really important.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, this was the final week of casting.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been having trouble finding a Macbeth, as our Macbeth&#8217;s have either been kicked off of the company or grown uncomfortable with the amount of potential lines.\u00a0 Thankfully, an awesome and enthusiastic young man named Deandre decided to join us this week.\u00a0 When he came in, I could feel his enthusiasm for the project and almost immediately knew that he genuinely wanted to be there.\u00a0 With that, I asked Deandre how he felt about the play and acting in general.\u00a0 He responded by telling me he doesn&#8217;t have much familiarity with Shakespeare or on-stage acting, but he is excited about the project.\u00a0 So I asked, &#8220;Would you be comfortable with a lot of lines, maybe as a main character?&#8221;\u00a0 Deandre responded extremely gratefully by saying, &#8220;If you&#8217;ll allow me,&#8221; as a smile stretched across his face.\u00a0 With that, we sort of finalized our casting.<\/p>\n<p>Now, and I think this is something the students are actually looking forward to, we get to employ some of our more creative urges.\u00a0 When leaving we announced that we would be talking about props the next week and everybody kind of lit up.\u00a0 They&#8217;re really eager to have their own input, their own fingerprints, on the production and I am really eager to see how they want to construct some of this.\u00a0 Its become clear that we aren&#8217;t going to make progress if the other mentors and I decide what we are going to do and how we are going to do it.\u00a0 For that reason, I am really looking forward to seeing what these kids and their imaginations have in mind.\u00a0 Tomorrow should be an interesting day!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I seem to say in every blog post, this week was a huge improvement on the last few.\u00a0 I&#8217;m learning that the relationships the students have with us is much more important than the relationship the students have with the material.\u00a0 At first, I wondered if the students&#8217; apprehension was fueled by disinterest in [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3604,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1134","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1134","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3604"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1134"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1134\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1134"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1134"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst368\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1134"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
