Ethics of Women in the NFL
The NFL is the most profitable sports league in the world, and while profits may be high, the organization faces a serious ethical crisis. While other sports leagues have progressed forward in attempting to provide avenues for women to obtain high level positions, the NFL lags behind and has left many passionate women with few to no opportunities to reach the pinnacle of American Football. The lack of inclusion of women by the NFL is unethical because it inhibits qualified individuals from following their passion and making a contribution in the progression of the sport both on and off the field. Under the ethical ideology of universalism, deontic reasoning, as well as the premise that professional sports, as a showcase of the best at a given sport, should operate as a meritocracy, it is unethical to ignore the myriad women who are receiving fewer opportunities to contribute in a high level position than their male counterparts.
