Welcome

This site provides an overview of the impact implicit bias has on African Americans in the criminal justice system. To accomplish this, the site has been broken down into a few major sections including an in-depth look at implicit bias, the historical change from explicit racism to implicit bias, an explanation of why implicit bias harms African Americans in the criminal justice system, and, finally, ways in which these biases can be changed.

The evolution of explicit racism to implicit bias caused the criminal justice system to become a complex system, that has both negatively and disproportionately affected African Americans, thus requiring changes to the media, policing tactics, and laws to counteract implicit biases that will not only improve how African Americans are treated within the criminal justice system, but work to establish ways to counteract the negative effects implicit bias has on all humans.
