{"id":4138,"date":"2020-11-15T15:44:03","date_gmt":"2020-11-15T20:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst1010304f2019\/?p=4138"},"modified":"2020-11-15T15:44:03","modified_gmt":"2020-11-15T20:44:03","slug":"jeffrey-sprung-blog-post-for-11-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ldst1010304f2019\/2020\/11\/15\/jeffrey-sprung-blog-post-for-11-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeffrey Sprung Blog Post for 11\/6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The chapter \u201cThe Unreported Resistance\u201d within Howard Zinn\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A People\u2019s History of the United States<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> detailed the numerous rebellions of the American people against our government throughout the late 1900s. I was surprised to learn about this \u201cpermanent adversarial culture\u201d (601) that began in the United States in the late 1900s due to our government&#8217;s actions. For example, I was previously unaware of the \u201cnational movement against nuclear weapons,\u201d (603) which was catalyzed by President Reagan\u2019s huge military budget. Despite the largest political protest in the history of the United States that occurred in Central Park, NYC (among other protests) to halt the testing, production and development of nuclear weapons, the federal government still later got involved in the Gulf War during the George H. W. Bush presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The unrest among the people of the United States in the late 1900s that Zinn described in this chapter reminded me of the current protests that are currently taking place. Over the past few months, massive BLM and other protests have occurred.
