• He wasn’t rich or royalty
  • Contrast to what the Roman Imperial thought
• Jewish aspect highlights relationship to John the Baptist
• Cynic- dependent on other people, not carrying anything when they travel
  • Not self-sufficient people

Violent vs. Non violent

• Violent- Rome, John the Baptist
• Non Violent- Jesus

Jesus and John the Baptist differ after John’s death

• John talks about imminence of kingdom of God
