Jesus of Montreal

In Jesus of Montreal, the life of Jesus and Daniel the actor who plays Jesus are paralleled.  In the movie, there is more emphasis on the Jewishness of Jesus.  Daniel, who embodies the character of Jesus, ends up identifying more with the Judaism rather than the developing Christianity.  This aligns with the identity of Jesus in the Third Quest where he is Jewish and dies among his own.  There is also more emphasis on the meaning of the resurrection.  In Godspell, Jesus was resurrected by being carried into NYC by his followers and becoming a part of them.  However, in Jesus of Montreal, there is a more significant social message through the death of Daniel.  Daniel teaches us a social message about organ donation because we can see a physical saving of the people rather than the spiritual salvation.
