Recap – 5 Most Important Contributions Jenkins & Carr

Our discussion led us to 5 important contributions Carr and Jenkins made to our study as we transition into historical Jesus studies:

  1. History is prone to exertion of power and the particular views the historian is trying to push/ultimate objective they have
  2. Epistemological fragility (4 arguments for instability)
  3. Accuracy is a duty, not a virtue
  4. The distinction between history and the past
  5. Always consider the social position of the contemporary historian when studying history; the argument that the historian makes will at least implicitly reflect his/her broader social context
