Historiography 1 (8/30)

When studying history it is important to remember that biases are inevitable, and every historian is writing from a certain perspective that is influenced by his/her circumstances (time period, culture, etc.). Understanding the circumstances in which a historian writes can help the reader understand why a historian has a certain bias. We, as students, also approach history with a bias, so it important to respect other interpretations of history even if we do not agree with them. Finally, there is a clear distinction between the past and history. The past is every event, large and small, that happen, while history is the written account of certain events in the past that historians deem important.
