Organizational Culture

The virtual nature of my internship made it more challenging to discover how employees communicated among one another because I was unable to see them on a daily basis. During the times I was able to watch them interact, almost exclusively over Zoom, except for a couple lunch meetings with the other intern and our two supervisors, the interactions were very casual. The company was set to host a happy hour earlier in the summer that was unfortunately cancelled due to the rise of the Delta variant; this was going to be the best opportunity to look at coworker interactions. However, during the client symposium Ametros hosted, they had a virtual happy hour and painting event that some members of the company and their top clients took part in. From that event, I was able to conclude that they certainly strive for a more relaxed, casual workplace. Even in a virtual environment, the events they hosted and the way they spoke to one another was all in good spirits and encouraging building open relationships with coworkers and bosses. It was fun being able to see the lower level employees and some of the bosses go back and forth and joke with one another on multiple occasions. Additionally, in their talks with me, they were always very professional and outgoing and wanted to know more about me. If it was my first meeting with them, we would always talk about the University of Richmond, what leadership studies is, and how I came to work for Ametros. This summer I was able to get quit a bit of practice answering the question “what is leadership studies”.  Then, I would typically flip the conversation and ask how they came to work at Ametros and what their thoughts were. Most of the time, they worked for a larger company and found an opening at Ametros, got the job, and have loved their decision since. Everyone remarked on how kind and helpful all the other employees were and how capable and understanding the managers are. Overall, I was very impressed by the ability of Ametros to encourage a casual environment but still do very important work.
