Week 4 at Cvent- Personal Contributions
I think that there are lots of ways that I have contributed to Cvent. So far I have focused on two main projects; budget reconciliation and financial systems upgrade testing cases.
For the budget reconciliation project, there is a lot that I have done hands-on. After a brief onboarding, I was able to have access to the IT budget. I then looked at their IT actuals and input them into the forecast file so that execs and other managers would be able to clearly see how they were doing in terms of budget. Though it is tedious, it is nice to see the difference that I made afterward. My manager for this project definitely appreciates the help and I am just happy to learn more.
I think one this that has really struck me throughout this internship is how much time and efforts go into making a corporation run. During my onboarding process and the first couple of weeks, I have been given an overview of lots of different systems that help Cvent keep track of its financials and it was really surprising. There are so many different programs that Cvent uses that all do something a little different. I’m honestly not sure why I wasn’t expecting this but I was still surprised by the sheer amount of programs that are necessary to keep the IT section running smoothly on the financial side.
As the internship goes on there are lots of things that I would like to learn. I have asked to be on a variety of different meetings that are super interesting, though some are on the tech side and it’s hard for me to really understand. I want to continue to get the most out of these opportunities to learn more by sitting in and listening. One opportunity in particular that I want to obtain is to be able to listen in on the manager’s financial meetings. I asked my manager last week and she said she had to make sure I was allowed for next time. I think being able to sit in on these will give me a fuller view of what the IT department is doing and where they plan on going in the future which will allow me to have a new perspective on the current projects.
I think that my contributions have sped up the processes and allowed my managers to work on the more difficult projects that I am not able to yet. In terms of the budgeting project, my help has sped up the reconciliation project and allowed my manager to work on her Tableau project. She has been trying to get the Excel spreadsheets into Excel for a while now but has not had the time so it is nice to give her a little flexibility to work on improvement.
