Living Memorial Project Week 4

This week we turned our attention to the Living Memorial Project for 9/11 responders/survivors who have died due to illnesses related to 9/11. VOICES Center for Resilience is creating a Living Memorial for these responders/survivors that can be accessed through their website. This week we worked on inputting the names of the responder/survivors that we have collected and their information into a form that will be used to create this living memorial. Each person we input requires research in order to find out their full name, place of work, job title, date of death, age of death, place of death, interests/hobbies, schooling, additional information, biography, obituary, and a picture that will be posted on their website in order to memorialize these responders and survivors. It can often times be very difficult and hard to find information on these responders and survivors and can take up to 2 hours depending on how easily accessible this information is on the internet. However, I understand the importance of having this information on the Living Memorial is and how meaningful it will be for these responders/survivors family members if we have all of the correct information about them on this website.

This week we also created a list of the current casualties from the condo collapse in Surfside, Florida in order to honor and memorialize these victims when we have more information on the event. In addition, we collected all of the news articles that were related to the VOICES Center for Resilience in order to create a new spot in their website for visitors to see all of the information this organization has provided to others and has been involved in. Our list currently dates back about 15 years ago and we are continuing to research more of these articles and add them to this list as we find them.

I have learned a lot about what has gone into the VOICES Center of Resilience’s current living memorial for victims of 9/11 and how much time and effort they put in to honor these victims and these families. Contributing the living memorial for the responders and survivors of 9/11 is really meaningful work and something I am very grateful to be apart of because of how much it will mean to these families when we finish.
