Theories In Action 1

One leadership theory that seemed to be a recurring theme within Ametros was epistemic leadership. It was recurring and embraced within the company as a strategy that would help the company succeed by helping individuals do their jobs better. America’s healthcare system is incredibly complex for a simple doctor’s appointment. Mix in what Ametros does, things become even more complicated; certainly too complicated for a single person to know everything. They work with large companies and their employees that are filing workers’ compensation claims for sometimes serious workplace accidents that need to comply with medicare guidelines, all while Ametros is securing them discounts on treatment items, and ensuring quality customer service. For this reason, Ametros has a series of educational resources available to all employees that covers a wide variety of topics related to the company and their target market. They have staff members that are experts in different fields available to consult with members of the company needing help on different projects or sales targets; they also make videos explaining some of the country’s more difficult workers’ compensation state systems. Further, they set up an entire LinkedIn Learning page for members of Ametros to watch informational videos that will help them in the workplace and to better understand medicare and workers compensation. They even incentivize people to watch the videos by entering them in raffles and giving financial awards for completing the trainings. I have consistently noticed that people are not afraid to admit when they do not know all the answers and will readily ask for help when they need it. All this is what causes me to see Ametros as practicing epistemic leadership. The senior leadership recognizes that they do not have all the answers and knows that getting help from whoever they can will make the company more successful in the long term. They see that when experts in different fields come together, their unique perspectives and areas of expertise will lead to a better end result. The nature of the workers’ compensation industry is that it involves plaintiff and defense attorneys, brokers and third party administrators, then the standard activities of a business like sales and Human Resources. Ametros enlists people with backgrounds from all of those fields to make their company the most successful it can be.
