Organizational Culture: Projects and Problems at CSRHub

The context of the CSRHub site, specifically the industry of ESG data, greatly affects CSRHub function and identity. Employees at CSRHub have a shared value for sustainability and change. I think this shared piece of identity creates a foundation for all employees to connect on, and an overall sense of purpose for the company and employees. CSRHub is a small company but requires highly trained workers in coding, data analytics, and much more. The employees that work at CSRHub are drawn to it because of the values and mission of the organization. The site industry is at the intersection of sustainability and data. This is a relatively new industry, and overall adopts a sense of urgency. This is seen through the quick data turnaround, prioritization of new data development, and increased research done by companies, investors, and consumers. This means that the leadership and teams are always ready to change gears and shift attention to a new issue, data set, or topic. CSRHub is quick to produce relevant data. Most recently, CSRHub CFO completed a study with a partner company on the sustainability of the three major Covid-19 vaccine producers: Moderna Inc., Pfizer Inc., and Johnson & Johnson. Bahar, the CFO, prioritized this research to make sure it was completed and published while the data was most relevant. This has always been a focus at CSRHub, striving to ensure research and publications are relevant and published when they can be most useful. My work of website page design was paused to write a blog post announcing the research along with social media and 3bl Media posts. This ability to quickly change norms is adopted and understood by all employees.

This culture of quick problem solving is both exciting and stressful. CSRHub combats this stress by upholding a fairly informal communication system: in that I can text or call my supervisor if there is an emergency or urgent situation. I also have access to the CEO and CFO for questions or concerns, and they have also built relationships with all team members and can always access individuals they need to work on new problems as they arise. Overall, the company culture is very niche, in that the industry is small, the company is remote, global, and small. I think the participative way in that the CEO and CFO communicate with all team members, including interns, is key in the day-to-day success of CSRHub.
