Because the focal point of Voices of September 11this rather gloomy, there must be a strong motivator at the helm to ensure determination and progression despite the upsetting nature of the work.

Charismatic leadership relies heavily on the persuasiveness and convictions of the leader. Leaders of this variety are driven by their commitment to and ability to embody their cause. Oftentimes, this dedication is manifested in a charming and confident persona which is appealing to the masses. According to House and Shamir’s take on the charismatic style of leadership, charismatic leaders transform the needs, values, preferences, and aspirations of their followers from self-interest to collective interest. In other words, work is performed for the betterment of the group and for those being affected by the organization’s efforts.

The founding director of Voices of September 11thembodies charismatic leadership, which makes for a very productive work environment. Perhaps most important and obvious is her ability to embody the mission of the organization and her commitment to the cause. The founding director lost her son in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, and she decided to establish the organization directly following her loss. Because she has such a deeply personal connection to the organization’s mission, she is steadfastly committed to the progression of the organization’s objectives, and thus inspires others to do the same. She exerts constant passion, commitment, and expertise, which engages her employees and gives her great authority.

I also recently noticed how the founding director’s force of personality, another cornerstone of charismatic leadership, enables her to exert authority. This past week, she invited all of the interns to accompany her in attending the opening dedication ceremony for the Memorial Glade at the 9/11 Museum in New York City. It was an incredibly moving service, one very important to our nation’s history, and I am very grateful to have been a part of such an event. At the ceremony, the founding director knew just about everyone in attendance. She was greeted with respect and admiration by many, and she returned the salutation with appreciation and positivity. Thus, it became especially clear to me at this event that she has a strong personality and commitment to her cause that is valued by many. Her charisma allows her to be successful in pursuing and fulfilling the objectives of Voices of September 11th.

In my first two weeks at work, I have discovered the prevalence and importance of charismatic leadership, particularly in a

[76624

post-2126","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-theories-into-action
["GET
