Ch. 8

I was mainly intrigued by the cost-benefit analysis of exercise in the long run. If a person spends an hour a day jogging, the person will spend on average two and a half years on jogging alone. If the benefits to the person does not increase the lifespan by more than two years, then the exercise wouldn’t be worth it. I’m glad that the Terman participants who engage in regular physical activity correlated with longer life spans, but I’m sure most of them spent their time exercising on activities they enjoy, not because they were pressured to do so. I thought that this was important for those who exercise to lose weight or any short term goal. Many people focus on getting exercise over with, but exercise should be something they enjoy so they can get the most out of the activity in terms of long term well being and time well spent. I’m grateful that I found a sport that I genuinely love, and I hope others find an activity they love to increase their well life span and quality of life.

    It was very heartwarming to read your blog post.
    I completely agree that exercise should be something that is enjoyable, and not something that has to “just be done to lose weight.” I think that since exercise does not necessarily add years to one’s life, it should be something that, in the end, is enjoyable and does not feel like exercise.
    I’m glad to hear that you found a sport that you genuinely love! I think that it was cool that you are well on your way, like the Terman participants, to a healthy and fulfilling life with your attitude about exercise!
