In the introduction, the problem that a lot of studies are not controlled their variables is addressed: participants who are compared in these studies are totally different in many ways. Collecting date of a person across their entire life is one of the best ways to avoid this kind of research bias. It has been found by tracing the lives of hundreds of people that, a series of common advice is actually not scientifically proven. Nevertheless, personality, which I had never thought would play a major role in anyone’s health, in fact, is highly relevant to a person’s longevity.
In the past, explanations of illness were based on the individual. However, after the medical care had been standardized, personal differences became less of a focus. It is important for us to know our behavioral patterns and inclinations because modern medical professionals would not do that for us. Also, it is notable that although personality traits serve as a successful predictor of a person’s health condition, it does not mean that personality is going to be stable over ones’ life span. Our personalities can be changed with effort and patience. We can definitely make an effort to change our behaving in order to move forward in the pathway to longevity.
