Palm Oil in the Amazon and Indonesia

One of the most current industrial endeavors in the Amazon is palm oil production, which has seen impressive growth since its start of commercial production in Brazil nearly fifty years ago. With a currently successful harvest and even growth projected for the future, how can we know what the effects of the rising palm oil industry in the Amazon will hold? Fortunately, we do not need to look far outside of the southern hemisphere to find out. Before workers in the Amazon were clearing forest space for oil palm trees, laborers in Southeast Asia were harvesting hefty crops from sister trees. Because of this, Indonesia has  lot to tell us about future implications of the palm oil industry in the Amazon.
