UNEP (SWOT Analysis)

Strengths:

  • Global organization (international publicity)
  • Has more resources/leverage when it comes to fieldwork and evaluation of the damages
  • Numerous experts’ views on the situation
  • Connections to other resources : World Health Organization, United Nation’s Development Programme
  • Using advanced technology (remote sensing analysis, satellite imaging) when mapping damages

Weaknesses:

  • Inability to oversee the complete distribution of funds
  • Inability to access certain areas because of the Israeli occupation
  • UN personnel is limited because of numerous threats

Opportunities:

  • Ability to coordinate international efforts with regional ones
  • Address water issues in conjunction with peace-building efforts
  • Serve as a buffer between contesting interests in the region

Threats:

  • Alienation and/or miscommunication when working with Palestinian citizens
  • Green/western “imperialism”
