{"id":1132,"date":"2013-04-27T13:21:52","date_gmt":"2013-04-27T17:21:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/geog250\/?p=1132"},"modified":"2016-01-27T12:00:35","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T16:00:35","slug":"the-hidden-water-we-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/geog250\/2013\/04\/27\/the-hidden-water-we-use\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hidden Water We Use"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Geographic website has several interactive activities, but one that I found particularly interesting was titled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/environment.nationalgeographic.com\/environment\/freshwater\/embedded-water\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Hidden Water We Use<\/a>,&#8221; which describes the amount of water embedded in objects we use everyday. \u00a0It describes how much water is used in each step of production of things like food and energy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1133 alignleft\" style=\"color: #333333;font-style: normal;line-height: 24px\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/geog250\/files\/2013\/04\/Screen-Shot-2013-04-27-at-12.20.31-PM-280x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"127\" height=\"136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/geog250\/files\/2013\/04\/Screen-Shot-2013-04-27-at-12.20.31-PM-280x300.png 280w, https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/geog250\/files\/2013\/04\/Screen-Shot-2013-04-27-at-12.20.31-PM.png 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 127px) 100vw, 127px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One that I found very surprising was the water used in producing\u00a01 pound of chocolate &#8211; which I happen to eat a lot of! To make 1 pound of dark chocolate, 3,170 gallons of water are used.
