Interstates may seem like impersonal non-places filled with traffic jams and impatient drivers, but after having made the ten hour trip to and from Nannie’s house more than 30 times, I consider the journey—spanning six states and nostalgic mountain-lined highways that transform into urban expressways—a collage of memorable places. To emphasize the unique, lasting connection I have with this humble, roadside landscape, I share specific places through quick watercolor sketches done from memory.
