Welcome to my exploration of the French Icarian communities in the United States.  The French Icarians were group of immigrants who came to America in order to pursue their ideals of utopia as outlined by Cabet. They experienced many trials and tribulations as they were forced to face the discrepancy between perfection and reality, a conflict that led to the community break up several times.

I hope, through this blog, to explore and learn more about the Icarian community and why the ideals they held so close were so dear to them. The values they held  and the lengths they went to pursue them are integral to understanding what the community really was. Through my research into the expectations of the community and actual community life, along with personal experiences of those who lived in and visited the community, I hope to shed more light on the Icarians and the legacy they left behind.
