The Goals of First Year Seminars<\/u><\/p>\n

First Year Seminars introduce students to academic inquiry and the modes of expression that lie at the heart of a liberal arts education. Every FYS is designed to fulfill several objectives*<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Expand and deepen students\u2019 understanding of the world and of themselves<\/li>\n
  2. Enhance their ability to read and think critically<\/li>\n
  3. Enhance their ability to communicate effectively, in writing, speech, and other appropriate forms<\/li>\n
  4. Develop the fundamentals of information literacy and library research<\/li>\n
  5. Provide the opportunity for students to work closely with a faculty mentor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
