“The big oil and big coal are spending money to spread doubt.”
“We have something they don’t”
There seems to be two agents: big oil and big coal(them), the people(us).
This, again is distortion. Sure, the big oil and gas companies will loose the most if we levy a tax on production of greenhouse gases. However, the loses aren’t just ‘theirs,’ the loses are ours too. When you take away something from this video, don’t let it just be the first two statements of this comment. I believe that it’s our decision to call it our problem. If we decide to call it that, then we should be willing to bear the consequences it comes with.
I am afraid that when enough of a consensus has been established, we undermine the backlash from using hatred against manipulative MNCs to fuel this campaign. I agree that some of the practices that they do are wrong, but it’s a completely separate issue with the same ‘enemy.’ It’s very easy to confuse the two.
My fear is that when people have to compromise on paying significantly higher heating bills, use ‘recycled’ drinking water and share cars, they will realize that they didn’t mean it when they said that they WANT to treat global warming as their problem.
