{"id":477,"date":"2012-06-19T10:51:55","date_gmt":"2012-06-19T15:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/?p=477"},"modified":"2013-12-27T12:13:37","modified_gmt":"2013-12-27T17:13:37","slug":"477","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/2012\/06\/19\/477\/","title":{"rendered":"Lil Wayne and R-E-S-P-E-C-T"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/files\/2012\/06\/Lil-Wayne.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-481\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/files\/2012\/06\/Lil-Wayne-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/files\/2012\/06\/Lil-Wayne-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/enielson\/files\/2012\/06\/Lil-Wayne.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Note: \u00a0This cites Lil Wayne lyrics, so it&#8217;s a tad raunchy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>A couple of weeks ago, Young Money boss Lil Wayne made news when, at the last second, he pulled Nicki Minaj from Hot 97&#8217;s Summer Jam 2012. \u00a0It turns out one of the station&#8217;s personalities, Peter Rosenberg, had disparaging comments about Minaj&#8217;s song &#8220;Starship,&#8221; which he (rightly) described as &#8220;bullshit.&#8221; \u00a0Lil Wayne didn&#8217;t appreciate the dis, so he pulled Minaj from the concert to show how much he respects women.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, the rapper who routinely drops some of the most repulsive, misogynistic lyrics in the business has apparently had some kind of epiphany. \u00a0&#8220;Nicki Minaj is a female,&#8221; <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hiphopdx.com\/index\/news\/id.20145\/title.lil-wayne-explains-why-he-pulled-nicki-minaj-from-hot-97s-summer-jam\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">he said<\/span><\/a><\/span>, quickly scoring a point with his correct gender identification. \u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what anyone else believe, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times, no matter what, where, when, or how.&#8221; \u00a0When I read this, there was something about his repetition of &#8220;female&#8221; here and elsewhere in the interview that felt a little off, but I was probably reading into things too closely, I decided. \u00a0Good for Wayne. \u00a0Good for rap.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, I decided to give Tech N9Ne&#8217;s <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/All-6s-And-Tech-N9ne\/dp\/B004R8XG9S\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">new-ish album<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(from 2011) a listen&#8211;it got pretty good reviews when it came out, and even though I&#8217;m not a huge fan of his twisted tales, I admire his dedication to the industry. \u00a0He&#8217;s been around for decades. \u00a0In any case, I saw that Wayne was featured in a very respectful-sounding song called &#8220;F**k Food,&#8221; and I was excited to hear evidence of his transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Having heard Wayne&#8217;s part in the song, I can now confirm that his respect for women does indeed run deep. \u00a0Right out of the gate, his opening line&#8211;&#8220;put that p**sy on my lip and dip&#8221;&#8211;puts his listeners on notice that this ain&#8217;t the same old Wayne, and a few lines later when he says, &#8220;I beat that p**sy like brass knuckles,&#8221; I almost start to feel guilty for doubting his sincerity. \u00a0I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised to read that brass knuckles line on a Hallmark wedding anniversary card.
