Welcome to Digital Memory & the Archive. This course is a joint-American Studies-Rhetoric & Communication Studies seminar open to all students at the University of Richmond. This site, bearing the same name as the course, is home to all course information (i.e. syllabus, course assignments, readings, useful links, etc.). It will be updated throughout the semester. Some of these materials are password protected, so you will need to consult the syllabus distributed in class for access.

This is a course for which there are many moving parts. You will be working with archival documents, creating metadata entries (do not worry if you do not know what that means yet!), developing skills as critical bloggers, and gaining facility with a range of other multimedia tools. Do not be concerned if these undertakings are new to you. Workshops have been built into the course to provide you with ample instruction and support. I hope you will join me as we help build a digital presence for the Race & Racism at the University of Richmond Project.

The Race and Racism at the University of Richmond Project takes as its mission the documentation, preservation, and analysis of texts illuminating dimensions of the University of Richmond’s racial history.
