{"id":76,"date":"2012-01-12T11:59:58","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T16:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/blackboard\/2010\/08\/18\/ms-office-prompts-for-authentication\/"},"modified":"2012-01-12T12:01:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-12T17:01:00","slug":"ms-office-prompts-for-authentication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/blackboard\/2012\/01\/12\/ms-office-prompts-for-authentication\/","title":{"rendered":"MS Office prompts for authentication"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Issue<\/h4>\n<p>When you try to open a Microsoft (MS) Office 2007\/8 document in Blackboard while using MS Internet Explorer 8 browser,\u00a0 you may be prompted for authentication although you have a valid session in Blackboard.\u00a0 UPDATE: This remains to be an issue with Office 2010\/11 documents as well.<\/p>\n<h4>Solution<\/h4>\n<p>UPDATE: The best solution is to hit the Escape key from the window that asks for your credentials.<\/p>\n<p>Another solution is to use a different web browser such as Firefox (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\">http:\/\/www.mozilla.com<\/a>) or Safari which are not affected by this particular issue.<\/p>\n<p>In IE 8 and 9: instead of clicking the link to the file and opening it directly into the web browser, you can right-click on the document link and &#8220;Save Target As&#8230;&#8221; to download the document to your computer.
