{"id":41,"date":"2010-09-15T09:43:20","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T14:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/blackboard\/2010\/09\/15\/groups-improvements-in-blackboard-9\/"},"modified":"2010-09-16T14:47:34","modified_gmt":"2010-09-16T19:47:34","slug":"groups-improvements-in-blackboard-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/blackboard\/2010\/09\/15\/groups-improvements-in-blackboard-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Groups: Improvements in Blackboard 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Groups are one of the most underutilized features in Blackboard, IMHO, but also one of the most useful.<\/p>\n<p>With Groups in Blackboard 9.1, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Release quizzes and assignments to different groups at different times<\/li>\n<li>Batch-add people to groups<\/li>\n<li>Set SmartViews in the Grade Center to view the grades of particular sets of students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Groups basics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve requested a merged course or just want to give students a space where they can work as a team by exchanging files, keeping a team blog,using group chat room, etc., Groups will be helpful to you. You can enable some or all of these for each group.  Blackboard has a helpful viewlet about <a href=\"http:\/\/ondemand.blackboard.com\/r9\/movies\/Bb9_Groups_Create_Groups_Add_Students.htm\">how to add students to groups<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting up sets of Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Group sets can be useful if you want to divide your students multiple ways (i.e. sections AND teams; teams WITHIN sections), The Academic Colleges Group IT (ACGICT) has created two video tutorials that will show you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/ACGICT#p\/a\/u\/2\/aZ8DUdAi9cE\">how to create group sets<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CUTv_RsowGY\">how to edit group sets<\/a>.\u00a0 You can also randomize user enrollments into groups in sets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-enrolling in Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Need a sign-up sheet? You can use the self-enroll option in Groups to set up groups to which students add themselves. Group sets also include a self-enroll option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tests: Adaptive Release for Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When setting up a test that will be deployed, you can create Rules in Advanced Adaptive Release, which you find by clicking the double-chevron to the right of the test once you&#8217;ve added it to a content area.
