{"id":2,"date":"2008-02-01T15:30:31","date_gmt":"2008-02-01T20:30:31","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-05-28T21:41:16","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T02:41:16","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/asznajder\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/asznajder\/files\/2008\/02\/aszj1.jpg\" alt=\"aszj1.jpg\" \/>\u00a0 Welcome to my homepage!\u00a0 I am an assistant professor of political science at the University of Richmond.\u00a0\u00a0After\u00a0receiving my Ph.D. from Yale University (Political Science)\u00a0in 2006, I spent the 2006-07 academic year as\u00a0a postdoctoral fellow at the Harriman Institute at Columbia University.\u00a0 My research focuses on the politics of economic reform and industrial restructuring in transition economies and on the resulting types of capitalism that emerge in the postcommunist region.\u00a0 My current book project examines the mechanisms through which politicians use state capacity and resources to fulfill their political objectives while balancing between domestic and external pressures for either policy stability or change.\u00a0 The project examines the critical steel sector in four postcommunist countries: Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania. In related pieces, I consider the intersection of industrial relations in heavy industry\u00a0with political and economic reform as well as\u00a0explore managerial attitudes to restructuring.\u00a0 In a separate project, I study the effect of ruling communist successor parties\u00a0on the level of economic reform.\u00a0\u00a0I currently teach survey courses on comparative and European politics; research methods; transitions from communism in Europe and Eurasia, as well as more specialized seminars on the political, economic, and social aspects of transition.
