In Fall 2023, the collaborative class project for ARCH 310 (Archaeology of Death) was focused on Saint James Cemetery<\/a> in Varina, Henrico County. With the help of UR’s GIS Operations Manager (Beth Zizzamia) and other members of the Richmond Cemetery Collaboratory<\/a>, we mapped<\/a> all visible markers and unmarked burial depressions, conducted archival research to find documents for other persons who were buried at the cemetery for whom no markers exist today, created a detailed catalog of handmade concrete headstones, and scanned some headstones to create 3D models<\/a>.
