Instructions for writing mid-term self-assessment

Writing up the Citizenship Self-assessment:

The first step is to REFLECT on your contributions to the class so far this semester.  Do this by reading through your blog posts on your own blog and others and also by looking over the class documents on the class blog.  Look back at the Syllabus and see how we defined citizenship.

Create a rubric to evaluate class citizenship, using the traits you pick up from your reflective reading. Traits go down the left-most column, and each trait should have a point value (?/10) that represents its weight in the overall calculation of citizenship score.  Then give yourself a score for each trait, and add up the total. Something like:

Trait Pos.Pts. Description of Great Description of Inadequate PTs. Earnd.

Then write a brief essay on how many out of the 10 points possible  you feel you have earned for the first half semester. Consider: What are the community learning aspects of the class allowing (or pushing) you to do? What are you learning?

Concrete evidence to consider:

class attendance

blog posts –after Bon Air visits AND as prep for class, class notes and responses

listening to others

sharing information and insights

prepping readings for class

efforts to form groups for Bon Air

other efforts related to Bon Air

other aspects of citizenship you want to comment on

TURN IN: 1 page rubric, 2 pages of explanation

Grading: I will consider your proposed citizenship grade, and, based on the EVIDENCE you present and the DEPTH of understanding of community that you demonstrate, I will accept or modify your suggested score.
