Monday, March 23, 2009 - Wimba Voice: New Modes for Communications in Classes
Why would anyone want to send voice e-mail? This question and others like it will be answered during an introduction to the Wimba Voice Tools that have recently been added to Blackboard. You’ll discuss possible uses of voice-based discussion boards. You’ll see how to create podcasts easily from within Blackboard. Best of all, you’ll see how easy it is to use the Wimba Tools to get your students talking. Boxed lunches will be provided.

Susan Breeden, Carolyn Burruss, and Kevin Creamer, members of the Classroom Oversight, Coordination, and Implementation Committee, will share the results of summer 2008 classroom renovations in Puryear, Ryland, North Court, Jepson, and the Law School. Discussion will include how rooms are chosen for updates, considerations for different learning spaces, and a look at the preliminary list of summer 2009 classrooms scheduled for renovation.

Kim Klinker, Director of the Spatial Analysis Lab, and Andrew Torget, Director of the Digital Scholarship Lab, will discuss how mapping and visualizations support research, teaching, and learning. Come see examples of data-driven visualizations, learn about Geographic Information Systems technology, and hear about how to get started with visualization in your own work (including the GIS Day event on November 19, 2008).

Blackboard will be upgraded during Winter Break this year. Several new and updated features bring opportunities for teaching and learning. Members of The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology will discuss how you can make the most of the new Blackboard. We’ll also demonstrate two alternative learning systems that are available, Moodle and Sakai, and explore how each system can be used to enhance teaching.
