Please Please Me (1963)

Please Please Me was released on March 22, 1963 as the group’s first UK album after “Please Please Me” and “Love Me Do” had immense success as singles. The album was recorded on a two-track British Tape Recorder (BTR) recording machine and eight of the 14 songs on album were written by Lennon and McCartney . The album was released first as a mono album, remastered into a stereo album that was released six weeks later, and was issued in a mono-only twin-track-reel-to-reel tape. On January 10, 1964, the album was released in the United States with the title Introducing The Beatles and did not include “Please Please Me” and “Ask Me Why” on the track list. Additionally, on February 26, 1987, the album was released as a compact disc in mono. Although the album would sell millions of copies, it was not an immediate hit upon its initial release and took six months to top 250,000 sales (“Please Please Me”). The album would soon rapidly increase in success and enter the charts on April 6, 1963, reaching number one on May 11, 1963 and remaining there for 30 weeks.
