The Blog Assignment
If you are a poster (your “Blog” week), post a 2-4 paragraph entry that either 1) responds directly to one of the textual readings due for that day, or 2) relates some part of the readings to something in the news or something else you have read/seen/played.
If you are a commenter (your “Response” week), you must respond to three posts. At least one of those should be an un-commented-upon post (if one exists). Your response may be as short as 2-3 sentences, or may be as long as you wish. The three required comments should be in response to a “Weekly blog post” post.
Your blog entries are due most weeks of the semester. The 10.30am class has entries due Tuesdays, the 12.00pm class on Thursdays. Comments are due 24 hours later (Fridays by 12.00pm and Wednesdays by 10.30am).
To post, log in to WordPress, and you will be taken to the Dashboard. On the left, click on “Posts” and “Add New.” Type your entry. On the right, go to “Categories” and choose your class section. All posts will automatically be categorized as “Weekly Blog Post.” When you are done, press “Publish.” Do not worry if your post doesn’t appear immediately; often, new posts (from new posters) have to be “approved” by me before they will appear.
You are being graded on the thoughtfulness of your entries and comments, and should be respectful of others (even if you disagree with them – which is okay!). You are not being graded on your grammar or style, but you should be aware that this is a public board and avoid inappropriate statements or content.
Each student should also post three total entries (not included in weekly blog posts) on lectures held on campus. These events include, but are not limited to, Jepson Forum Events or departmental speaker series lectures. Forum events are listed on the syllabus, but other events will be mentioned in class and via email. Students will also be able to find events through SpiderBytes. These posts should be marked as Category “Lecture Post,” and are due within a week of the day of attendance.
If you want to make an additional post, mark it with the Category “Other thoughts.” Anyone is welcome to make an “Other thoughts” post at any time, on any (appropriate) subject. Comments are welcome on all posts, but will only “count” toward your comment grade on “Weekly blog post” posts.
