The NFL’s inability and unwillingness to provide opportunities for women to hold leadership positions is not an issue that can be ignored, as every individual regardless of gender has an equal right to succeed. Action is necessary in order for the NFL to shed their stereotypically masculine culture and become a more progressive organization with values which are consistent with our modern society’s current trend towards inclusion, diversity and universalism. To ignite the change which the NFL needs to fix its detrimental culture, the NFL must expand the “Female Rooney Rule” from just executive roles to include coaching positions, as well as create a comprehensive coaching summit that better exemplifies inclusivity and the differing leadership styles of women to help them gain the skills and connections necessary to succeed at the professional level. These implementations are crucial for the NFL because as our society continues to more progressive and embrace the concept of universalism, the organizations which fall behind and do not embrace these values will lose revenue, as consumers will not want to support organizations which do not align with their personal morals and values.
