  1. Lucy is hilarious. 😀 I used to watch this show all the time when I was a kid (and the candy scene is one of my favorites, along with vitameatavegamin). It should be inspiring to everyone who has ever suffered setbacks in their pursuits to see how many times Lucy was rejected before becoming one of the most popular entertainers of all time, and how many bit parts she played before becoming a star– actually, just last week I saw her in a little part in a Three Stooges short.

Also, it’s interesting to see how far ahead of the times she was with her inter-ethnic marriage and televised pregnancy– although how she got that way with the twin beds is a mystery. 😀

Nice work, Scotty and George. 🙂

  2. I remember when I was younger, always watching tv, I would occasionally stumble across certain shows that entertained me more than others, I love Lucy being one of them. But it wasn’t until I read this blog that I knew of her role in women’s progression. I completely understand how she can be considered a hero, especially to women.

  3. As a kid, I loved the show ‘I Love Lucy’ and I always admired Ball for being funny and intelligent. As I got older I came to recognize her contributions to the film industry and appreciate what she did for women in television and film. She truly is an inspiration for not only women hoping to break into the industry, but also for women who feel that their dreams are not attainable. Ball demonstrates that if you persevere, you will succeed.

  4. When I was little, I Love Lucy reruns were always playing on TV and I couldn’t help but watch several episodes. Like Haisten, I was unaware until now of her role reshaping the landscape for women in comedy. I can understand how she is seen as a heroic figure.

  5. I remember when I was a kid my mom and I would always enjoy watching the show, ‘I Love Lucy’ together. I thought it was so cool that she used to watch it growing up as well. Its nice to watch a show that is not vulgar or has to use bad language to get a laugh out of people. Ball is an inspiration for women who feel that their dreams are not reachable. I think Ball is a good role model in many ways because she shows how with perseverance and hard work, your dreams can come true.

  6. Lucy really is a comedic genius. The legacy she has left in television is unmatchable. She broke the glass ceiling in TV and in how women can be portrayed and the roles they play, which translates to the larger picture of society, as television mirrors the thoughts and values of the society of the time.

  7. Honestly, I have only seen a couple of episodes of I Love Lucy and I found them entertaining, but after reading this blog I might actually try to find the box dvd set. I never knew all of the obstacles she had to face because of her husband being another race.
