His ability to remain dedicated and selfless through monumental work and discovery are extremely admirable. The courage present to defy previous notions concerning addiction must have been immense and received serious opposition. At this point, it's hard to imagine a time when (most) people didn't understand that addiction is a disease and not a sign of moral inferiority. Many fine people have had the props kicked out from under them by the insidiousness of substance abuse, and thanks to Anderson's compassionate insights, many of them have recovered and reclaimed their lives. Anderson's heroism may be of a quiet and undramatic sort, but it's astonishing to think of how many thousands-- or millions-- of lives he has saved. There’s no doubt Daniel Anderson changed society’s perception of addiction.
