Strengths
- International representation, cooperation and funding
- Technological workshops: modernization of water treatment technology with aims to improving health conditions
- Strong ties between development and conservation: forums on erosion, deterioration of habitat, resources, the Nile River Awareness Kit
Weaknesses
- International agendas and the loss of local voice and representation, limited understanding and awareness at the grassroots level
- Technology is not up-to-date in all member countries, and forcing 11-12 different countries and cultures to follow the exact same policies does not always function
- Protected areas, along with other key environmental locations, are not managed to the standard and care with which they should be
Opportunities
- Institutional, technological, medical and socioeconomic benefits in developing countries with high poverty levels
- Greater international involvement and heightened awareness of the issues, political alliances and communication
Perceived Threats
- Foreign and international agendas and the loss of local voice
- The history of poverty and conflict in the region may affect the development of the project: Egypt and its individual political agenda
- Local effects of environmental degradation, overexploitation, pollution and loss of habitat for the sake of development: the livelihood of the inhabitants of the Nile Basin depend on the ecosystems to survive and support themselves
