My Stage Two essay is an analysis of Aldous Huxley’s intent in writing Brave New World, and how these intentions relate to population control. I argue that Huxley, as perponent of the necessity of population control, creates a world in which population control is both a viable and effective answer in creating a stable and functioning society. The problem with this is that this program could not possibly transfer to real life. Huxley’s fictional government uses mind control and drugs to influence its population, things that a government like that of China could not ethically do. The most important resource for me in this stage of the project was Huxley’s Brave New World Revisited, which gave Huxley’s personal opinions on population control and its relation to his novel straight from the man himself. I think that the end result was one of my best essay to date.
