Eco-Spider Challenge Essay

In representing the Jepson School of Leadership Studies we built our Eco-Spider out of recyclable newspapers and an assortment of Time Magazines representing past, present, and future leaders of our world. Through the encouraging words of our leaders, it is our duty to practice sustainable living and promote environmentally friendly initiatives. Every day newspapers, magazines, and aluminum cans are discarded in the garbage rather than being recycled. These items can easily be recycled and reused if placed in the proper recycling bin. Architect William McDonough phrased it correctly, “If we understand that design leads to the manifestation of human intention, and if what we make with our hands is to be sacred and honor the earth that gives us life, then the things we make must not only rise from the ground but return to it, soil to soil, water to water, so everything that is received from the earth can be freely given back without causing harm to any living system.” This is how we practice sustainable living and the work of good design. It is of this we must now implement into our daily lives!
