Overseas Press Club Scholarship

Interested in becoming a foreign correspondent? Apply for the Overseas Press Club Scholarship.

Winning an OPC Foundation scholarship is more than a cash award. Winners are invited to join the Overseas Press Club family. They are encouraged to network and keep the organization apprised of their career moves. The Foundation pays travel and living expenses for interns in foreign bureaus at such leading news organization as the Associated Press and Reuters, among others, and at foreign English-language media companies like the South China Morning Post and Cambodia Daily. In many cases, winning a prestigious OPC Foundation award has helped launch careers.

Scholarship Deadline is Dec. 1, 2009.

Unpaid Congressional Press Internship 2009 Fall

Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) has an unpaid Press Internship position available for the 2009 fall session in his Washington, D.C. office. Duties include assisting communications staff with daily press operations including listbuilding, drafting press releases, blog entries, and speeches, planning press conferences/events and performing administrative tasks.

Must be highly motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and will have the ability to manage multiple tasks on a deadline. The ideal candidate will be a college or graduate school student with a background or interest in journalism or communications. Virginia ties preferred, but not necessary. James River Film Festival - Call for Entries

The 16th James River Film Festival April 13-19 will continue to accept entries for the juried invitational of short films through Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. Admissions must be under 30 minutes in duration, in any genre–narrative, animation, documentary, experimental–and must not have been previously submitted for the competition. The jury is comprised of filmmakers, educators and professionals in the Central Virginia area.

Entry forms and guidelines can be found at www.rmicweb.org. A screening of the competition winners will be held Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Firehouse Theatre in Richmond, Virginia.

Since 1994 the James River Film Festival has awarded $26,000 to independent filmmakers in Virginia and nation-wide.–The Richmond Moving Image Co-op, home of Flicker and the James River Film Festival, is a nonprofit organization that supports independent media arts in Virginia.
