Top Secret: Investigating the Government Security Clearance

The Career Development Center will host “Top Secret: Investigating the Government Security Clearance” Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Weinstein, Room 314.

The Career Development Center will host a webinar presented by the Partnership for Public Service about how to find and apply for federal internships Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Tyler Hayes Commons, room 331. Lunch will be provided.

What’s the best way to get a job with the federal government? Do an internship! The federal government will hire about 60,000 student interns in 2009. There will be positions for every academic major at more than 100 federal agencies including the Departments of Treasury, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services and even at the White House. Many deadlines for internships during the summer of 2010 are coming up soon.

Unpaid Congressional Press Internship 2009 Fall

Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) has an unpaid Press Internship position available for the 2009 fall session in his Washington, D.C. office. Duties include assisting communications staff with daily press operations including listbuilding, drafting press releases, blog entries, and speeches, planning press conferences/events and performing administrative tasks.

Must be highly motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and will have the ability to manage multiple tasks on a deadline. The ideal candidate will be a college or graduate school student with a background or interest in journalism or communications. Virginia ties preferred, but not necessary.
