The upgrade is 90% complete. There are a few minor tweaks still outstanding, but the majority of curriculum pages are now feeding from the catalog database. We can customize these pages on the department sites, so feel free to send corrections and additions to me, however, keep in mind that official curriculum changes must pass through Academic Council and the Registrar before they are posted. I don't recommend editing these pages in Cascade yourself as they are very complicated.

Spambots are programs that constantly troll through web sites looking for e-mail addresses. These addresses then get forwarded around the world for spamming purposes (both as recipients of spam and as “spoofed” From addresses in spam messages).

Unless your machine is infected with a virus, the spambots can’t harvest your contact information out of your e-mail. You are fine to leave your e-mail signature as is. The spambot problem only applies to web pages.

It is worth noting that we are making every effort to minimize the exposure of e-mail addresses on all campus web sites. This should help to reduce the number of spam messages we all receive.

Enjoyed the info you both shared at the A&S meeting yesterday - great job!

You really made me think about security! I am probably sharing too much info in my email signature!! Is our email a medium that is very easily "mined" if I don't post to blogs or listservs? I do the same thing on my web sites...TOL...Yikes!!!

When the Web was "born", a lot of talk about "signatures" on web sites and email was strongly encouraged as a "design element" to "get your name" and/or "get your site" out there as a "published" site online. It seems that this has an inverse effect in today's "connected world" and is perhaps a security risk. I am going to definitely make changes on my web sites and my email signatures?!?! Might even explain the constant flow of spam mail...oh my!

Training update: Web Services is very close to finishing the system changes in Cascade. We expect that these upgrades will be in place by March 1 at the latest. With the system upgrades nearing completion, you can expect to receive information on training sessions with Kenyada Jones very soon.
