Friends,
Next Thursday, the School of Arts & Sciences’ monthly faculty meeting will enjoy a change of venue. Faculty and staff will be invited to preview the University’s new space, UR Downtown, located at the corners of Broad and 7th streets in the heart of the City of Richmond.
UR Downtown is an extraordinary example of what can be achieved when the University partners with non-profit and government entities, not to mention alumni and friends, all of whom are dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to the Richmond community.
The new space will become a home to the School of Law’s Harry L. Carrico Center for Pro Bono Service and the Jeanette Lipman Family Law Clinic as well as the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement’s Richmond Families Initiative, but I hope it is also a place that all Arts & Sciences faculty feel comfortable utilizing as they work to integrate community-based learning into their courses, offering undergraduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences a new jumping-off point to effect change in our community.
Best,

Andy Newcomb
Dean, School of Arts & Sciences
