I am a dancer who recently completed a 2 year commissioned touring project and am watching all of my performing and teaching work disappear. For the first time in many, many years there is no work on the horizon. I am 57 years old and have been self-employed for most of my life and not eligible for unemployment benefits. I have always been resourceful and creative about finding and creating work but there is now a panic setting in, can't sleep, can't seem to see a way forward.
I don't even know where to look for help. This is scary.

I am nervous about the reduction in tax benefit for wealthy individuals. I do not think it will deter their giving but i do think that the proposed legislation might impact the amount. I wish they had increased the deductibility for lower level givers rather than lowering for higher level givers.

Leading by example is critical. Think of all the Kennedy's did for the arts in America. I hope Obama continues to make it a priority.

It will be most interesting and with Wicked being the most marketable title, I wonder whether people will actually subscribe instead of buying single tickets.

They should have done it at a different time so folks were focused on them. I wonder if they are little more than background music at a sports event like this.

And "free for all" was Modlin's idea.

Very interesting. In a pinch, I think they could say that the murals fit their mission broadly, but producing opera is at the core of what they are doing. The good news is that they are not selling their murals, but rather using them as collateral. Let's see how this plays out. If this recession continues for years, there may future issues.

The lesson from this is that we must always strive to cultivate and steward donors at all giving levels.
